Costco Coming to Apex - Maybe

Cary and Apex residents rejoice (or not), Costco is possibly coming to the intersection of Highway 64 and Laura Duncan Rd.

Members of the Apex town council must still approve the developers’ rezoning request and major site plan, 35 acres, which is on the council meeting agenda for Nov. 19.

If the site plan passes in the town council meeting, Costco will be the anchor tenant at the proposed “Nichols Plaza” a $50 million dollar development with a 149,500-square-foot retail warehouse building and gas station. The property will also have nine outparcels for other future retail and service businesses.

Columbia Development of Columbia, S.C., has been leading the planning efforts for Costco and the Nichols Plaza project.  The development group’s members have already agreed to finance and build a new road on the north side of the Nichols Plaza property that will connect Laura Duncan Road with the Harris Teeter-anchored shopping center next door at Lake Pine Drive.

Columbia Development will also be responsible for widening existing turn lanes and adding turn lanes onto the heavily trafficked U.S. 64. The town will split the $36,000 cost of adding turn lanes onto U.S. 64 at Old Raleigh Road.
